The latest phase of a housing development in the centre of Paisley is fast selling out – in what has been hailed as a thumbs-up for the town and its regeneration plans.

Westpoint Homes are putting the finishing touches to the latest block of flats in their Abbey Place development, with 18 of the 23 properties already sold.

The new block, which overlooks Paisley Abbey and Gauze Street, was built after the two existing blocks on Cotton Street sold out after opening in 2012.

And Renfrewshire Council’s Leader Mark Macmillan believes the influx of new residents perfectly complements other work going on to boost the town centre.

He said: “This new development is just the latest piece in the town centre jigsaw – but there will be lots more activity over the next few years.

“That section of the town centre has been utterly transformed of late, with the Westpoint flats and ongoing development over the road on the former Arnotts site.

“It can only be good news for town centre traders that so many new residents have been brought into the town, with more to come when phase one of the Arnotts development is complete.

“We see the speed at which those flats have been bought as a ringing endorsement of Paisley town centre and all it has to offer.

“We are entering an exciting few years for the town – with the council this year having unveiled ambitious plans to use Paisley’s outstanding cultural and heritage assets to drive regeneration and tourism over the next decade.

“That will lead to a bid for UK City of Culture status for 2021 – and the new residents of those flats will have a perfect view of a town centre we expect to be buzzing with activity as we work towards that bid.”

Zoë Robertson, sales and marketing manager of Westpoint Homes, said: “Abbey Place is a wonderful location close to the historic Abbey and Paisley town centre.

“The Abbey area of Paisley has been totally transformed over the last few years and is now a vibrant, thriving residential and business location, however even we have been surprised at how quickly the apartments have been snapped up.

“To have sold 18 properties within such a short space of time is a real testament not just to the quality and high specification of our apartments but also to the hard work of Renfrewshire Council and the vision of the town planners.”
