Colleagues During the Week, Rivals this Weekend
Saturday 27th October 2018 sees Pollok F.C host Cumnock F.C in the Scottish Junior Cup, after the drama of the West of Scotland Cup final in 2017 between the two sides Cumnock will be searching for cup revenge this weekend.
Following the recent partnership between Pollok Football Club and Westpoint Homes both organisations have been extremely successful, with Westpoint scoring a brace at the Herald Awards winning Best Apartment and Best Small Development, and of course Pollok’s excellent form winning 4 of their last 5 matches.
This weekend is particularly exciting for the Glasgow house builder as Newlandsfield Park welcomes Cumnock F.C who are closely sponsored by Capital Development Consultants a company which Westpoint Homes work alongside and have a strong relationship with.
This week Fergus Aitken of Westpoint Homes arranged to meet with managing partner of Capital Developments, David Weir, to discuss the importance of supporting the local community and the crucial role junior football plays within a community.
David Weir has grown up in Cumnock and has been a supporter of the junior team since he was 5 years old, he said “in a small community there is no choice but to support your local team”, as he got older his involvement with the club grew. David joined the fundraising committee in 2008 and has been passionate to help the club since. Following this, in 2014 Capital Development Consultants took on the opportunity to sponsor Cumnock F.C in their adventures over the last few years, similar to the partnership Westpoint Homes and Pollok F.C formed in August of this year.
David describes the journey of being a young kid supporting his local team to being able to sponsor Cumnock as a ‘lucky opportunity’. Junior football is ultimately about involvement, the aspect that makes it so enjoyable is that small towns like Cumnock are provided a focus of excitement. This is shown when it comes to a Saturday afternoon at Townhead Park and the community comes together, from the catering staff to the volunteers handing out pre match programs all playing their part to allow the junior side to have the best support possible.
Westpoint Homes are delighted to be backing Southside’s local team, it has allowed two organisations in the local community to come together and support one another. The team at Westpoint wish Pollok FC all the best in their cup match tomorrow.
Predictions for the match:
David- ‘I never like to predict the score, I believe it will be a close match though’
Fergus- ‘3-1 Pollok F.C’
